What about modern maths?

As it is nearly impossible to attempt the whole CAT Quants Section , Do u think it better to stress on only some topics in Maths instead of doing all? and if we have to leave what topics should we leave?

  I THINK MODERN MATHS IS

I THINK MODERN MATHS IS THE SECTION WHICH WE SHOULD NOT ATTEMPT AS PROBABILITY AND PERMUTATION QUESTIONS IN CAT ARE REALLY BRAIN TEASERS.

For non-science
For non-science students

More than 50% questions come from two topics number system and geometry. If you can master both of them then no need to worry abt others. But to be in safer one should always do all the topics in algebra.

And it’s always advisable to stay away from topics like permutations, combinations, probability, etc.

For Everyone

Hello Everyone,

We all know that CAT can always try something different. For the past few years we have been observing that majority of the questions come from topics like Number System, Geometry, Functions, etc. and this time one cannot just take a chance of mastering just two or three of those topics. You never know if this time you get only 5 questions from these topics altogether and the majority part will be from Arithmetic (Time and Distance, Time and Work, Profit and Loss, Averages, Percentages, Alligations, ... etc.) You can always find the Toughest Questions from the Easiest Topics. I hope you all understand what I am trying to say.

Basically what I would like to suggest to all of you is that Please at least get your concepts clear for almost all the topics so that at least you can attemt them all. But if you just master four or five topics, and you get so tough questions from them that even after thorough practice, you are unable to crack them in the examination hall (after all its Mathematics ... and no one can ever be so confident in this subject). Always try to be on the safer side. Hence my suggestion would be to be the Jack of All Trades but at the same time, Master of Some (if possible), but not None.

May be my suggestion will prove to be useless after the CAT paper is in your hands but there is an equal probability of it being equally useful.

Sorry if I have suggested anything wrong.

Thank You.

Ravi Raja
