q--a tap takes 8 secs to fill a jar and 6 minutes to fill the drum.ram has to fill the drum with the jar.first he fill the jar and then brings it to the drum and pours the water into the drum .the time taken to bring the jar from the tap to thre drum is 10 seconds. unfortunately the jar developes a leak which can empty the full jar in 40 seconds .what will be the min total time req by ram to fill the drum??

18mins 20mins 12mins 50/3mins 75/3min

q--alice had a circular piece of paper ,using which sheb formed a cone of the max possible volume.however to do this she first cut out a sector from the circular piece and then folded this sector into a cone (without base ).alice then measured the area of the base of the cone ,so that she could purchase some more paper to cover it.if A is the area of the sector with which alice formed the cone ,then find the area of the base of the cone??

Let JOB B = time for filling

Let JOB B = time for filling the drum  =  6min = 360 seconds

Job A = filling a jar = 8 secs

JOB A = B/45  (360/8)

in 18 secs (8 sec for filling + 10 sec )  B/45 x 3/4 (3/4 beucase "unfortunately the jar developes a leak which can empty the full jar in 40 seconds" i.e 10/40 effort is wasted)

in 18 secs - -  - B/60 job is completed

SO JOB B can be completed in 18 mins

Q1> the time taken to bring

Q1> the time taken to bring the jar from the tap to thre drum is 10 seconds and the jar developes a leak which can empty the full jar in 40 seconds.

So in the 10 s, 1/4th of jar will be empty. So net contribution to the drum is only 3/4th of it.

Had the leak not been there, then no of jars reqd = 6*60/8 = 360/8

But bcoz of leak the efficiency of jar is reduced to 3/4th.So jars reqd will be 4/3rd.

Now, no of jars reqd = 360/8 * 4/3 = 60

Total time req = (60*8+60*10)/60 = 18 min

Solution

Here the volume of jar be x whcih is filled in 8 sec and the Vol. of drum = 45 x as to be filled in 6 minutes

The time taken to  move the jar = 18 sec and in which the vol. drained out is 18x/40

The final vol in the jar = x -18x/40 = 22x/40 in 18 sec.

The number of time s the operation is repeated is = 40x45x/22x = trips = 81.88 trips which is say 82 and time taken in each trip is 18 sec = 24.6 mts so net time will be slighy more by this which is 75/3 = 25 Thus solution should be 75/3 mts.
