In 2001 our birth rate was nearly 3 times more than China. 27 births per 1000 as against 8.8 for China! India is adding 18 million people per year, against 9 million per year in China. Total addition to population is a function of total births minus total deaths.
As per the World Bank, the poverty line definition is US$1 per person per day or US$365/person/year, for underdeveloped countries like India, China etc. As per the official data from both governments, China has 3% population below the poverty line, compared to India’s 26 to 29%! Only better governance will help.
India could be a giant exporter of food, only if we could put our ‘house in order’ to near world class standards! China with lesser cultivable land, produces double the food grains, at 415 million tons per year compared with India's 208 million tons per year. God has been very kind to India with a lot of sunshine, rain, rivers, lakes, coastline and good hard working citizens.
The governance of hamlets, villages, cities, districts, Government and Semi-Government agencies, as facilitators, have not done enough to show the results that India is able or capable of achieving. India would definitely rate as the No.1 country in the world, for Potential vs Performance!
Indians score high marks on performance, outside India! This is because the Governance is better outside. In countries where the Governance & Administration is poor, the performance of its citizens is also low!
In Education, 99.1% of Chinese children attend school for 9 years, this ensures a high level of literacy. In India, literacy is 50 to 60%While IIT's, IIM's are important, the country's real growth will come because of primary and secondary education and vocational and educational training in all districts of the country. India can rise and shine in exports, agriculture, literacy and other areas with better governance.

The most important fact about our nation is that India is still driven by its people. If India is developing then the people behind it are Indians. Not any political party, any ideology or any institution.
Most of the big Indian firms were wholly private initiatives, while most of the Chinese companies had significant state involvement. China has developed a lot but because of the restrictions imposed on its people by a single party initiated by Deng Xiaoping. I don’t know up to what level china can go with just the obsession of being a developed nation. A country with high speeds trains, A country getting few medals in Olympic.
In short term things are looking very sweet and smooth but coping the internal politics when china truly opens up is not going to be that easy.
India on the other hand is slugging all these years but has made it population to believe that they have to achieve things on their own. And with the current trend of entrepreneurship continues for next couple of decades I can’t see a reason why we cant beat china (or for that matter US) in all the aspects of development.

In last 3 decades China has modeled its self to become the production center of all commodities and India is doing the same thing in service sector. By mutual co-operation and help India should learn how to make changes in our manufacturing sector to take it to the next level and we can help in china in service sector.
Dunno from where the time "163 years" came from but I believe that India and China are incomparable
China's GDP is 4 times that of India plus they have a growth rate comparable to India. This is a major gap
In contrast to Indians, Chinese gave their people economic freedom before giving them political freedom. No doubt theirs is a brighter and clearer future
Its absolutely absurd saying that India is behind China. today in our 21st century we are among 10 super power nations. if we are comparing only India & China, then we have more power in terms of ammunitions, knowledge, technology, infrastruture. also we are heading towards our GDP growth upto 10%.
Summarising, from all member`s views , India has a better prospects as compared to china.
c mon india is better in some field than china.........v people say china have most number of exports than any other countries ..................yes thts true ,but most of d goods are toxic and they r not good for a normal human bein....comin to india ,india is topped in production of agricultural goods...........and in recent yrs v will see india and china havin a neck to neck competion
Thanks every one for your thoughts and views. .
I think we should move to a next topic. .
