A hare pursued by a greyhound, is 50 of her own leaps ahead of him. While the hare takes 4 leaps, the greyhound takes 3 leaps. In one leap, the hare goes 1.75 meters and the greyhound 2.75 meters. Find out in how many leaps will the greyhound overtakes the hare?
Soln: Time taken by hare to take 4 leaps =time taken by greyhound to take 3 leaps
1 leap of hare=1.75 m and 1 leap of greyhound is 2.75 m.
=>Time taken by hare to cover a distance of 4 x 1.75 = Time taken by greyhound to cover a distance of 3 x 2.75
=> Sg/Sh = 8.25/7....(i)
Suppose the hare has covered a distance of "a" meter when they meet ,so the greyhound will cover (a+50x1.75) meter.
Sg/Sh=(50x1.75+a)/a...(ii)
Solving (i) and (ii);
a=490 meter.
So the total distance covered by greyhound when they meet is 50x1.75+a=577.5 meter
2.75 meter of greyhound = 1 leap
So, 577.5 meter of greyhound = 210 leaps

Let me do it the other way
The hare covers a distance of 4*1.75(7.00) in same time as the greyhound covers 3*2.75(8.25)
Now at the start of the chase the hare was 50*1.75(87.5) ahead
Let us assume that the chase after x leaps
Then
7x+87.5=8.25x
So x=70
initial distance b/w them is 50x1.75
now, greyhound has covered 3 steps in response of 4 steps of hare
so, distance become closed by 3x2.75-4x1.75=1.25
so 3 sets of distance req to be covered is 50x1.75/1.25=70
hence total steps of greyhound will be 70x3=210

the greyhound makes 1.25 m ground in 3 leaps
to covere 50 hare leaps or (50 x 1.75)m,
it 'll take (50 x 1.75 x 3)/ 1.25 = 210 leaps
But they start with a difference of 50 m,how come you have taken the differnce b/w them to be 50 m?
The hare have taken few more steps till the time both of them met.
